Q & A Section

Q. What is canvas?

A. Canvas is an extremely heavy-duty plain woven fabric used for making sails, tents, marquees, backpack, and other items for which sturdiness is required. It is also used in such objects as roller blinds, tents, canopies and even industrial seat covers. Normally 100% from the cotton plant and nowadays mixed with polyesters and other man-made fibers to give them durability, waterproofness and strength in harsh environments.

Q. What material should I use for seat covers?

A We highly recommend our latest seat cover material, developed specifically for automobiles. It is a polyester/acrylic blend and tends to last longer, fade less, and is more spill resistant than our traditional cotton seat cover material. It is a lightweight, material with UV protector in it and purpose built for seat covers. We also use the popular cotton canvas material, which people tend to prefer it for breathability. For industrial applications where heavy wear is expected, there is another option, Ripstop canvas, which is very strong, waterproof, although doesn't breath very well.

Q. What is the best material for making a tent and can you make this for me?

A. Heavy duty Ripstop canvas is a preferred material for this application. We have been making tents with this for over 15 years and can quote if you want us to make it. We have a multitude of tent shapes and sizes to work from, both for personal tents and also for industrial tent applications used in the military, disaster relief, large scale social functions, temporary buildings, wilderness camps etc.

Q. I see you now supply 4x4 products?

A. Yes, we believe the 4x4 market can complement our expertise in canvas, essentially marrying the 'hard' wear with the 'soft' wear to give you a complete solution for your outdoor pursuits.

Q. What kind of 4x4 products do you carry and do you have stock?

A. We carry a range of products for most newer 4x4 vehicles, from Ford, Toyota, Isuzu, Mahindra, Nissan, Jeep, Suzuki, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Iveco and Landrover. We have bull bars, winches, rear bumpers, recovery gear, suspension systems etc.

Q. What kind of support do I get when I buy the LAS line of accessories?

A. We do fitment and sell the entire product line, plus if there are any warranty issues, LAS is located next door to us in South Africa and offer the best warranties in the business. They develop and engineer their own line completely and have great follow up support through their dealer network, including the support you have from us on sorting through that with you if you have any problems.

Q. What is the best way to get a fast quote over the phone?

A. We've all got mobile phones or children with mobile phones. Email us a picture so we can get a visual and we will give you an idea straight away if we can do it, although working out the cost will take a bit more time as we have to measure the material and time involved.

Q. How do I care for my Ripstop Canvas tent or Ripstop Canvas product?

A. New canvas tents should be thoroughly wetted before first use and dried completely. Soap or detergents should not be used on the canvas, and only be cleaned with cold water and gently brushing.
